Get Type 2 Diabetes Under Control - Type 2 Diabetes Caused by This “Good” Hygiene Habit

We should all be hygienic, right?

Wash our hands, brush our teeth, take a shower every day.

Not so fast, says a new study from Harvard University and published in the journal, Nitric Oxide. One daily hygienic habit, usually praised as very good, can increase your risk for diabetes by 30%.

Researchers analysed information on 1,206 overweight/obese adults collected by the San Juan Overweight Adults Longitudinal Study. The participants were between 40 and 65 years old and free of diabetes and heart problems.

– 43% used mouthwash at least once a day
– 22% used it at least twice a day
…and the rest didn’t use it at all.

Overall, 17% of the participants developed prediabetes or diabetes.

20% of those who used mouthwash at least once a day were struck by either of these two metabolic conditions. A 3% higher risk probably isn’t anything to worry about.

However, of those who gargled with mouthwash at least twice a day, a full 30% succumbed to prediabetes or diabetes, and that is certainly a huge increase in risk.

According to the study authors, over the counter mouthwash poorly discriminates between good and bad bacteria. It is strongly antibacterial and kills all bacteria, including the good ones.

This is problematic, as your body needs certain good bacteria to produce nitric oxide which is, in turn, responsible for regulating insulin levels.

Previous studies have shown that using dental floss and brushing your teeth is very beneficial for your health. But mouthwash seems to be overdoing it with hygiene.

Eye Floaters Causes and Cure – What Causes Eye Floaters?

There are two main types of eye floaters, and the two have very different causes. Eye floaters are classified as either benign or pathological, with the former being the most prevalent type.

There is no way of telling whether you have benign or pathological eye floaters, and therefore, you should visit a qualified health professional as soon as you develop the eye floaters and again whenever you notice a drastic change in the number or severity of the floaters.

To understand the causes of eye floaters, first you need to understand the basic eye anatomy. The eye is filled up with transparent jelly-like liquid, called the vitreous humor. This liquid is about 99% water and 1% protein. The vitreous humor is attached to the eye at the optic nerve head (found in the posterior part of the eye) and at the anterior part of the eye orbit.

However, separation of these attachment points is fairly common, and may occur as a result of injury to the eye, strenuous exercise, or for no particular reason. The detachment of the vitreous humor from posterior part is the most common cause of benign eye floaters.

When this gel-like solution is detached, it will now be free to move around and sometimes it will make contact with the retina. When this happens, the person will see flashes, called photopsias.

When the vitreous humor is free to move, it progressively becomes less transparent because the proteins tend to aggregate together. These aggregates give rise to floaters, technically called vitreous syneresis. It is estimated that over half of the world's population will develop eye floaters at some point in their lives and they can occur at any age, although they are more common in older adults.

The other type of eye floaters is the pathological one. In this case, there is a similar detachment of the vitreous humor, however, it occurs from the anterior attachment. When this happens, the retinal tissues may get pulled to such an extent so as to create a hole in the retina.

As a result, some blood can leak into the eye cavity, and this gives rise to eye floaters. This type of eye floaters can be very dangerous, because if it is left unattended, total retinal detachment can occur. This will require surgery to be corrected, and it can lead to blindness if it is not treated.

There are other conditions and circumstances that can cause blood to leak into the eye cavity, the most common of which is proliferative diabetic retinopathy, a fairly common condition in diabetics who do not manage their condition properly. What happens in this case is that abnormal blood vessels will grow in the retina, and these may bleed into the vitreous humor.

Other conditions that can give rise to eye floaters include macular degeneration, foreign bodies that end up in the eye, and some parasites. 

Eye Floaters Causes and Cure – Etiology of Eye Floaters

In most cases, the etiology of eye floaters involves an accumulation of proteins and/or debris in the vitreous humor of the eye - that jelly-like solution that fills the ocular cavity. Eye floaters are found behind the lens and in front of the retina.

Persons with eye floaters describe them as dots, squiggly lines, or cobwebs in their fields of vision. The number of floaters can vary from one to hundreds, and they become more pronounced in bright light conditions.

Eye floaters are more common in older adults. This is because with age, the vitreous humor starts losing its shape, and the proteins that are normally dispersed in the solution may aggregate and become visible. What you see is actually the shadow of these strands of protein.

Perhaps the most common etiology of eye floaters is posterior vitreous detachment. This describes a condition characterized by the 'peeling away' of the vitreous humor from the retina. They may occur gradually or suddenly. People who are near-sighted are more at risk of posterior vitreous detachment, as are people who have undergone cataract surgery.

When posterior vitreous detachment occurs, the person will typically experience eye floaters, or if floaters are present already, their number will quickly increase. Flashes of light may also be seen. Untreated, posterior vitreous detachment can cause retinal detachment or retinal tears.

Retinal tears can also occur independently of posterior vitreous detachment and this will also cause eye floaters to appear. About half of people over 50 will have some degree of vitreous detachment from the retina, and this can lead to a retinal tear.

As the retina is pulled, small blood vessels in the retina may burst and blood may leak into the vitreous humor. This will cause the person to see black dots or smoke in the field of vision. Flashes of light can also be experienced. However, note that flashes of light do not necessarily indicate a retinal tear; other causes, such as migraines, can give rise to this phenomenon.

Another possible etiology of eye floaters is retinal detachment. This occurs when retinal tears are not treated immediately, and result in the retina separating from the wall of the eye. This will have serious repercussions on your vision, and may lead to blindness. Retinal detachments will also cause eye floaters to be experience, although this is one of the rare causes of floaters.

Other possible etiologies of eye floaters include eye infections, inflammations, eye injury and eye diseases. They can also arise as a complication of diabetes.

Yes, says a new study published in the journal Diabetes, Metabolic Syndrome and Obesity: Targets and Therapy.

Traditional medicine often makes use of ginkgo biloba supplements, but their use in modern medicine is often laughed off as an ineffective fad.

A new study has just concluded that they might be effective in the treatment of type 2 diabetes, published in the journal Diabetes, Metabolic Syndrome and Obesity: Targets and Therapy.

In this study, the scientists first produced type 2 diabetes in a group of 40 rats, by feeding them a high-fat diet for eight weeks before injecting them with a low dose of streptozotocin, a substance that destroys insulin-producing beta cells in the pancreas.

They then divided the rats into four groups:

– a control group without diabetes,
– a diabetic group treated with nothing,
– a diabetic group treated with a ginkgo biloba leaf extract, and
– a diabetic group treated with magnetic water.

Needless to say, the diabetic group treated with nothing remained sick.

But even though the researchers expected the groups treated with ginkgo biloba and magnetic water to improve, they were stunned when they noticed the size of the effect.

The pancreatic beta cells in these two groups started increasing in mass and in their ability to produce insulin. The ginkgo-biloba-treated rats, especially, displayed such an improvement in pancreatic beta-cell function that their pancreatic beta cells almost resembled the cells of the rats without diabetes

…meaning: you could say these rats were cured!

Both the treatments also reduced oxidative stress and oxidative damage caused by diabetes to pancreatic cells.

But results for rats and results for humans always differ a little. And although human studies have proved ginkgo biloba effective, it’s only a part of the type 2 diabetes cure puzzle.


Cure Type 2 Diabetes Naturally – Radical Type 2 Diabetes Cure That Works

Newcastle and Glasgow Universities recently did a revolutionary experiment on CURING (not just treating) their type 2 diabetes patients without medications.

They used drastic measures – for this drastic situation – but the results were that almost 50% of their subjects were completely cured in three to five months.

Not just that, specific part of the study group had amazing 86% success rate.

They recruited 298 adults who had been diagnosed with type 2 diabetes.

They were all between ages 20 and 65 and their body mass index scores ranged from 27 to 45, meaning that they were all overweight or obese.

At the beginning, all the patients were taken off insulin and other anti-diabetic and blood pressure medications.

Half of the medical practices placed their patients on a radical 850 calorie per day diet for three to five months. And then weaned back onto normal food over a two to eight weeks period and encouraged to keep good diet and exercise program.

The other received general best diet practice advice for treating their type 2 diabetes.

Their diabetes parameters were tested at the beginning of the study and up to 12 months after that.

36 of the radical dieters lost 15 Kg (66 pounds) or more, a feat achieved by no one in the comparison group. This should not be surprising, as 850 daily calories are approximately half of a general daily recommended intake.

On average, the dieters lost 10 Kg (22 pounds) and the non-dieters lost only one (2.2 pounds).

Amazing 46% of the dieters achieved complete remission from their diabetes, while only 4% of the non-dieters did.

The effectiveness on their diabetes depended on the amount of weight lost.

Remission was achieved by:

1. 7% of those who lost from 0-5 kgs,
2. 34% of those who lost from 5-10 kgs,
3. 57% of those who lost from 10-15 kgs, and
4. 86% of those who lost 15kgs and more.

In other words, your aim is to lose 15 kgs and to keep it off.

This approach is different from the standard insulin treatment it addresses the root cause, instead of just managing blood glucose through drug use.

The drastic weight loss with so little calorie intake literally shocks your body back to normal glucose control so that no drugs are needed.

This study shows that almost everyone can CURE their type 2 diabetes without medications.

The compound in black tea responsible for this effect is probably the black tea polymerized polyphenol (BTPP), and from previous studies, the authors suggested that it has antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and blood pressure-lowering effects, and that it apparently blocks our bodies from absorbing carbohydrates.

In fact, other studies have shown that countries (and areas) where black tea consumption is high have lower type 2 diabetes rate.

Eliminate Cholesterol Buildup in Arteries - Cardiovascular Health Ruined in 16 Breaths

We all know that smoking is a cardiovascular disease risk because of the tar that we inhale when the cigarette burns.

Up to now, one solution has been e-cigarettes because they give us a tarless way to inhale nicotine.

But as evidence is piling up around the danger of e-cigarettes, a new study in the journal Radiology reveals what may be the most terrifying results yet.

Because they can ruin your heart in 16 puffs.

E-cigarettes are battery-operated devices that convert a liquid into aerosol and thereby enable us to inhale nicotine and fruity and herby flavors that taste good.

To simplify the question about the heart health of e-cigarettes, researchers at the University of Pennsylvania decided to test plain e-cigarettes without nicotine or flavors.

They recruited 31 people between the ages of 18 and 35, none of whom had smoked e-cigarettes before. They then used an MRI to examine their arteries after taking 16 three-second puffs of an e-cigarette loaded with plain vape juice, consisting mostly of water and either glycerol or propylene glycol, the standard ingredients.

To check the flexibility of blood vessels, the scientists constricted the vessels of the thigh with a cuff and then measured how quickly the blood vessels expanded again for normal blood flow after they released the cuff.

Flexible blood vessels that contract and expand quickly for variable blood flow are healthy; stiff vessels that cannot expand to allow enough blood flow are unhealthy. That is basically what cholesterol does to your blood vessels that is so dangerous.

After inhaling the vape juice, the researchers observed:

1. a 34 percent reduction in the ability of blood vessels to expand,
2. a 17.5 percent reduction in peak blood flow,
3. a 20 percent reduction in the oxygen carried by the veins, and
4. a 25.8 percent reduction in the speed at which the blood returned to the normal flow after the cuff release.

This means that it is not only tar and nicotine that make smoking hazardous: the inhalation of vape juice from e-cigarettes causes less blood flow through our bodies, less oxygen in our blood, and stiffer blood vessels.

And this was from only 16 puffs. Imagine what happens if you smoke e-cigarettes day in and day out.

At this stage, it is not obvious why this is the case, as glycerol and propylene glycol are safe to eat. Our bodies obviously don’t like it when they are heated and inhaled.

Eliminate Cholesterol Buildup in Arteries - When to Lower Cholesterol (and if)


And having high cholesterol is riskier as we age. It’s actually not that dangerous for young adults.

But when is the time to take action and tackle your cholesterol level?

A new study published in the Journal of the American College of Cardiology answers this.

Be warned: the results may shock you.

The authors collected data from six large studies that had followed their subjects over long periods, from young adulthood to later life.

This gave them the trajectories of 36,030 people’s low-density lipoprotein (LDL) and high-density lipoprotein (HDL) cholesterol, as well as their systolic and diastolic blood pressure scores from age 18 onward.

It also provided them with details of these same people’s later coronary heart diseases, heart failures, and strokes.

Armed with all this information, they could calculate whether high cholesterol and blood pressure during early adulthood posed a risk of heart disease later in life and whether action to lower cholesterol and blood pressure after age 40 reduces these risks.

These were their findings:

1. Those with LDL cholesterol above 100 mg/dl between the ages of 18 and 39 were 64 percent more likely to have coronary heart disease when compared to people with LDL below 100 mg/dl during this period, even if they lowered their cholesterol after age 40.

2. Those with systolic blood pressure readings of 130 (mmHg) or higher during early adulthood were 37 percent more likely to experience heart failure in later life than those with early scores lower than 120 mmHg.

3. Those with diastolic blood pressure of greater than 80 mmHg during early adulthood were 21 percent more likely to have heart failure later in life than those with scores below 80 mmHg.

This seems to be depressing, as it appears to suggest that nothing you do after age 40 matters to lower your risk of cardiovascular disease.

But this is not true. Consider the following:

1. While your later-life risk of coronary heart disease (clogged arteries) increases if your cholesterol is too high in young adulthood, your risk of stroke and heart failure does not increase significantly if your cholesterol was high in young adulthood but you lowered it after age 40.

2. While your later-life risk of coronary heart disease increases if your cholesterol is too high in young adulthood, it increases even more if you do not lower your cholesterol after age 40.

This gives you two good reasons to continue working on your cholesterol when you are older than 40.


Eliminate Cholesterol Buildup in Arteries - Busted: Cholesterol Plaque NOT Caused by This Animal Fat

In the past three decades, science has been so inconsistent when it comes to the health risks of animal fats that consumers have been understandably confused about what to consume and what to avoid.

But a new study in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition has now decisively revealed that one type of animal fat is definitely not unhealthy for your heart.

In fact, those who consumed this fat moderately were 25 percent less likely to die than those who didn’t consume this fat.

The scientists examined data collected from the Italian cohort of the European Prospective Investigation into Cancer and Nutrition study, also called the EPIC study.

They specifically collected the subject’s socioeconomic and demographic data, their health data, and information regarding their intake of milk (total, full fat, and low fat), yogurt, cheese, butter, and overall dairy calcium.

They specifically wanted to know whether dairy consumption increased their participant’s risk of dying prematurely of cardiovascular disease, cancer, or all other causes combined.

Following up after approximately 14.9 years, they found that 2,468 of their 45,009 participants had died, 59 percent of cancer and 19 percent of cardiovascular disease.

But they could find no difference in the death rates of consumers versus non-consumers of dairy products.

No type of dairy product puts its consumers at increased risk of death.
Not even full-fat milk.

Interestingly enough, when they compared people who consumed milk with those who consumed no milk, they found that people in the former group were actually 25 percent less likely to die of all causes than people in the latter group.

This was, however, only true for those who consumed between 120 and 160 grams of milk per day, not for those who consumed more than 200 grams per day.
