What You Need to Know the Ugly Truth on Cholesterol Drugs

The most common cholesterol drugs prescribed by doctors to lower cholesterol is statin. These are powerful cholesterol drugs with severe, common side effects. Such as muscle pain, ED, sleep disturbance, and cognitive impairment.

Why Honest Doctors Hide Cholesterol Drugs Side Effects

The most common cholesterol drugs prescribed by doctors to lower cholesterol is statin.

These are powerful cholesterol drugs with severe, common side effects. Such as muscle pain, ED, sleep disturbance, and cognitive impairment.

More serious are life-threatening muscle damage, liver damage, kidney failure and death.

A new study reveals that most honest, well-meaning doctors don’t inform their patients about how dangerous these cholesterol drugs are.

But their hiding is because of a different reason than you’d think.

British and Swedish scientists recently decided to examine whether people’s expectations of side effects influence their perception of the side effects.

In other words, are the side effects created by the cholesterol drugs, or by the user’s expectations that they will suffer from side effects? They published the study in the journal The Lancet.

They constructed the study with two phases:

In the first phase, more than 10,000 people at risk of high cholesterol, with an average age of 61, were divided into two groups: the first group took a statin and the second a placebo (fake treatment). Neither the patients nor the doctors knew which people were taking the drugs and which were taking the placebos.

In the second phase, 9,899 patients were given the choice of whether they preferred to take statins or not. Both doctors and patients obviously knew who took statins and who didn’t.

In the first phase, which lasted three years, similar percentages of both the statin-takers and placebo-takers complained of muscle pain and erectile dysfunction.

In the second phase, lasting two years, there were 41 percent more complaints of muscle pain among the statin-takers than among the non-takers.

What the study suggests is that it is your expectation of pain and erectile dysfunction that causes the pain and erectile dysfunction, not the drug that causes them.

That is why doctors may want to hide side effects from you. They want you to take the drugs without expecting side effects and thereby experiencing the side effects.

The main researcher suggests that the Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency in the United Kingdom should drop its requirement that these side effects be listed on the labels, which would leave you with no information on which to base your own decisions.

I think however this shows even more clearly how flawed scientific studies can be.

The fact is that the majority of men over 55 (the same age as would take statins) experience some level of erectile dysfunction. And who hasn’t felt muscle pain from time to time.

I think the main reason people brought it up more when they took the drugs and knew about the possibilities of side effects was that they believed something could be done about it. That is “get me off those horrible drugs”.

Another thing is that people in the second phase had a choice if they would take a drug or not. Obviously it’s a different type of person who chooses to say no to a pharmaceutical than those who gulp it up and ask for more.

They tend to take life in their own hands and live a healthier lifestyle, and are therefore less likely to suffer lifestyle-based diseases such as muscle pain and erectile dysfunction.

And maybe most of all: Pfizer, the large drug manufacturer funded the study. Although the researchers insist that the company did not participate in, or interfere with, the research, we must assume they were somewhat leaning towards their funder’s views. Having side effect labels removed is obviously something that would thrill drug companies.

What You Need to Know About Good Cholesterol

In the eighties you were told to lower your overall cholesterol. Then (LDL) bad cholesterol and (HDL) good cholesterol was discovered. And you were advised to lower your bad cholesterol and raise the good cholesterol. Now, a new study reveals that both these approaches are complete shams and will increase your risk of heart attack and cause cancer.

Good Cholesterol … They Got It All Wrong!

The study presented at the American Urological Association 2017 annual meeting and has also been published in the Journal of Urology casts major doubt on raising (HDL) good cholesterol by showing that high HDL can cause prostate cancer.

They examined 4,904 men over a period of four years, requiring them to undergo cholesterol tests and prostate cancer biopsies. These men were taking no medication for their cholesterol.

Every 10 mg/dl (milligrams per deciliter) of extra total (LDL + HDL) cholesterol was associated with a 23 percent greater risk of developing high-grade prostate cancer. This is the type that is serious and may spread fast.

In addition, every 10 mg/dl of extra (HDL) good cholesterol was associated with a 74 percent greater risk of high-grade prostate cancer and a 34 percent greater chance of prostate cancer of any grade.

So, what on earth has gone wrong here? Isn’t HDL cholesterol supposed to be good, removing the bad cholesterol from your bloodstream to be excreted?

That is clearly how HDL cholesterol works, but researchers have previously concluded that increasing your HDL cholesterol score is not actually beneficial for your heart health at all.

In 2014, the BMJ published a large scientific literature review with 117,411 patients across 39 previously conducted studies who were taking drugs to increase their HDL.

While their HDL increased, it did not reduce their risk of suffering a stroke or heart attack, or dying of coronary heart disease, or actually dying of any other cause.

That is, increasing (HDL) good cholesterol is useless for improving your heart health and health in general.

So, what must you do to lower your cholesterol without increasing your HDL and collecting a bout of prostate cancer?

What this (and most studies) was missing is that they didn’t take into account the third type of cholesterol. The one that is the real cause of plaque buildup in your arteries, stroke and heart attack.

Warning about This Highly Effective Cholesterol Supplement

You’ve no doubt heard about the amazing effectiveness of fish oils (Omega-3) as a cholesterol supplement —and it’s absolutely true, as proven in repeated studies.

BUT only if it’s used in a specific, right way!

Unfortunately, most people use fish oil supplements in the wrong way, making them extremely harmful to their heart and overall health.

This misuse is even worse than unhealthy Omega-6 fats, as proven in a new study published in the British Journal of Nutrition.

The problem is that Omega-3 oils are highly oxidizable, meaning the oils become rancid easily when exposed to light, heat or oxygen.

They’ll become harmful before you begin tasting the rancidness.

In this British Journal of Nutrition study, the researchers divided their 54 participants into three groups:

1) One group received 8 grams of fresh fish oil per day.
2) Another group received 8 grams of oxidized fish oil.
3) The third group received 8 grams of high-oleic sunflower oil.

Participants took the supplements for 7 weeks; their blood was tested at the beginning, after three weeks and at the end of the study.

After 7 weeks, the sunflower oil group increased their LDL cholesterol level 5%. No surprise.

BUT the oxidized fish oil group more than DOUBLED that amount, increasing their LDL level to a whopping 11%. Double digits!

Those who took the fresh fish oil supplements, however, gained 3% improvements in LDL level.

The main problem with this cholesterol supplement is that there is no way to know if the supplements you buy are already beginning to oxidize. Studies have shown that up to 62% of fish oil supplements are already oxidized in the store.

If you’re going to take those supplements, make sure you buy them from the cooler and keep them in your fridge at all time. Get them in dark containers and pay close attention to the expiration date.

It may not even be worth taking these supplements as the potential harm (11%) is so much greater than the potential benefit (3%)—almost 4 times as much!

You may be better off consuming fresh food high in Omega-3, such as fresh fish and flaxseed. Then avoid highly processed food and oils high in Omega-6, such as sunflower and safflower cooking oils.

The main point to take away from this study on this cholesterol supplement is that cholesterol oxidization is the #1 reason for cholesterol plaque buildup in your arteries.

Eliminating all oxidized cholesterol is the KEY to avoiding stroke and heart attack.

6 Types of Nuts That Slash Your LDL Cholesterol Level

Nuts contain several nutrients that make them particularly heart and cholesterol healthy. The most important of these are vitamin E, monounsaturated oil, and fiber.

But not all nuts are created equals.

In today’s article we’ll list the 6 most heart healthy nuts and explain why they’re so good for you.

Down LDL Cholesterol Level – Nut #1. Almonds

According to a recent study in the Journal of Nutrition, almonds can increase the amount of HDL (good) cholesterol in your blood and enhance its effectiveness at removing LDL (bad) cholesterol from your body.

Another study in the Journal of the American Dietetic Association concluded that almonds could increase the amount of vitamin E in your blood and decrease the amount of bad cholesterol. Vitamin E is a strong antioxidant and almonds are one of its most abundant sources, so it is not surprising that it can prevent harmful cholesterol.

Down LDL Cholesterol Level – Nut #2. Cashews

These creamy nuts are lower in fiber than other nuts, but a 2017 study in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition found that they could lower your total cholesterol by 3.9 % and LDL cholesterol by 4.8%.

Their benefits probably stem from their monounsaturated fat, and they can provide a large percentage of your daily copper, magnesium, manganese, phosphorus, and iron intakes. They work well if you eat a handful as a high-calorie mid-morning or mid-afternoon snack.

Down LDL Cholesterol Level – Nut #3. Hazelnuts

Italian researchers concluded from a study published in the Journal Nutrients in 2005 that hazelnuts could successfully bring down your LDL and total cholesterol.

Rich in monounsaturated fat, they can fight inflammation and oxidation of LDL cholesterol, two of the main causes of dangerous cholesterol. They also contain vitamin E and arginine, an important amino acid previously linked to cholesterol reduction.

Down LDL Cholesterol Level – Nut #4Peanuts

Although not technically a nut, if the other nuts on the list are a bit beyond your budget, the humble peanut is cheap. If a 2014 study in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition can be believed, peanuts can cut your cholesterol and blood pressure scores—substantially.

Another study in JAMA Internal Medicine on more than 200,000 participants discovered that those with a high peanut intake had a smaller risk of dying of cardiovascular disease and of all other causes than their peers. High in fiber, monounsaturated fat, arginine, and a super-healthy polyphenol called resveratrol, peanuts are a cholesterol-fighting powerhouse.

Down LDL Cholesterol Level – Nut #5Pistachios

When scientists published their study in The American Journal of Clinical Nutrition comparing a group of people who ate no pistachios with groups who obtained 10% and 20% of their energy requirements from pistachios, respectively, the pistachio eating groups’ total cholesterol decreased by 8%, their LDL by 11.6%, and their other non-HDL cholesterol by 11%.

The non-pistachio group did not benefit at all. With antioxidants like vitamin E and carotenes, monounsaturated fat and fiber, and almost every mineral and vitamin you can think of, this is unsurprising.

Down LDL Cholesterol Level – Nut #6Walnuts

In a study in BMJ Open Diabetes Research & Care, scientists showed that a handful of walnuts every day reduced participants’ LDL cholesterol while keeping their weight constant, notwithstanding the high fat content.

With anti-inflammatories like monounsaturated and Omega-3 fats and antioxidants like ellagic acid, catechin, and melatonin, you can’t go wrong with these delicious nuts.

Eating nuts is not going to be enough to normalize your cholesterol.
