Blood Sugar Spike What to Do – This “No-No Food” Heals Diabetes and Metabolic Syndrome

This food was considered very healthy.

Then it was put on the no-no list and was pitched as the cause of almost all modern diseases.

Lately, however, this food is experiencing something of a comeback in the scientific community.

And a new study in BMJ Open Diabetes Research & Care contributes to this debate by revealing that it can prevent type 2 diabeteshypertension, and metabolic syndrome.

Previous studies had already linked this come-back food, dairy, and reduced risk of metabolic diseases, but the authors of the new study thought that these were too focused on people in North America and Europe.

As a result, they thought they would collect information already obtained by the Prospective Urban Rural Epidemiology (PURE) study, which includes people from Argentina, Bangladesh, Brazil, Canada, Chile, China, Colombia, India, Iran, Malaysia, Palestine, Pakistan, Philippines, Poland, South Africa, Saudi Arabia, Sweden, Tanzania, Turkey, the UAE, and Zimbabwe. The subjects were all between 35 and 70 years old and they were followed for approximately 9.1 years.

Complete medical information to diagnose metabolic syndrome was available for 112,922 people, who served as the subjects in the investigation of the relationship between dairy intake and metabolic syndrome.

The researchers also investigated the relationship between dairy intake and type 2 diabetes in 131,481 people who were free of this metabolic disorder at the beginning of the study.

They lastly analyzed the association between dairy intake and hypertension in 57,547 people whose blood pressure was also approximately normal at the beginning.

These were their findings:

1. People who consumed two daily servings of dairy were 24% less likely than people who consumed no dairy to have metabolic syndrome. Those who consumed full-fat dairy were 28% less likely to have metabolic syndrome, meaning that full-fat dairy is better than low-fat dairy.

2. Low-fat dairy consumed alone was not associated with the risk of metabolic syndrome, but people who mixed low fat and full-fat dairy had an 11% smaller risk than those who consumed no dairy.

3. Compared with people who consumed no dairy, those who consumed two daily servings had a 12% smaller risk of developing diabetes. Once again, full-fat dairy was healthier.

4. Compared with people who consumed no dairy, those who consumed at least two servings per day had an 11% smaller risk of high blood pressure, with full-fat dairy being healthier.

5. For all conditions, three daily dairy servings were healthier than two were.

They defined low-fat dairy as products containing one to two percent fat, and their analysis included milk, cheese, yogurt, yogurt drinks, and dishes that contained dairy products. Butter and cream were analyzed separately, as they were not widely consumed in some of the analyzed countries.

It is worth remembering that pouring three glasses of milk down your throat after consuming four slices of white bread is not going to save you from diabetes.

The conclusion simply means that, between two people who both eat four slices of white bread, the one who also drinks the milk will have a lower risk of diabetes, but not necessarily a low risk.

Therefore, so long as you don’t use this as an excuse for an unhealthy diet, at least two servings of dairy per day can be healthy.

But drinking full-fat milk is not going to cure type 2 diabetes; to do that, you need to follow the three easy steps explained here…

They might be the easiest, least expensive cure for diabetes:

Beta glucans eliminate inflammation – inflammation that leads to beta cells in the pancreas failing to do their job in producing insulin. Inflammation also leads to insulin resistance. Oat beta glucan has been shown to directly cause a decrease in the inflammation that causes diabetes.

Additionally, the journal Experimental and Clinical Endocrinology released a study that showed participants had an increased insulin sensitivity and blood sugar control after just 4 weeks on a diabetic-appropriate diet that also included oats.

Oat beta glucan has also been shown to increase Peptide Y-Y, a powerful appetite control hormone. Keeping the appetite in check helps to eliminate a risk factor for becoming diabetic, which is obesity.

Oats are also very high in thiamin, or vitamin B1. This vitamin is critical in the metabolism of carbohydrates for energy. There is some data emerging that shows people with insulin resistance have lower levels of thiamin in their blood.

Gluten free varieties help celiac disease sufferers to get necessary grain-based fiber and other nutrients they can’t get because of eliminating other whole grains.

Find a type of whole oat that works for you and include it every day in what you eat. Avoid the use of ‘quick oats’ as these are highly processed and full of sodium. This doesn’t help with blood pressure or inflammation. The whole, un-kilned version is the best and can be found at health food markets or online.

One of the never ending debates about type 2 diabetes is about the consumption of fruits.

All moms tell their children to eat our fruits and vegetables. But at the same time, we know that fruits are loaded with sugar – the worst enemy of type 2 diabetes.

Fruits contain very high amounts of critical fiber, which is largely eliminated from consumption when the fruit is juiced as opposed to being eaten.

This causes the sugars to have a more concentrated effect in the blood since there is no fiber to balance the sugar consumption.

For best results, a half cup to a cup of fresh, raw fruit is recommended 3 times per day for optimum health benefits, as long as you are not discarding the fiber before you swallow it. Instead of running it through a juicer, blend the whole fruit with ice and plain, unsweetened Greek yogurt.

But eating fruits / blueberries regularly is probably not enough to cure type 2 diabetes once it develops.

In order to quickly move away from generalized anxiety, you need to throw yourself 100% into life.

What is needed is to engage regularly in an activity that stimulates you, and holds your complete attention, something in which you can become completely absorbed.

Something that distracts you is a very valuable tool in taking your attention away from the uncomfortable sensation of anxiety that may be lingering in your body.

You see almost everyone with anxiety finds themselves getting a bit obsessed about how they feel at any given moment. The less preoccupied the person is, the more time there is to obsess over anxious sensations.

I am sure you have noticed that when you are doing something you enjoy or that really holds your attention, the less you ‘check in’ to measure your anxiety level.

Quite simply, the more you engage with life the less stagnant and anxious you will feel.

Some of the possible activities that interest you could be:

Gardening, playing a musical instrument, sport, or simply having a good conversation with a friend. The idea here is to find something that you can repeat on a regular basis that you enjoy doing or that at very least holds your attention.

If you find you have too much time on your hands and are having problems coming up with something you could do, then I recommend you volunteer in a local voluntary scheme. It could be anything from helping the elderly, looking after animals or environmental conservation.

If you can spare even one or two hours a week for such work, not only will you feel your self-esteem improve, but it will help shake off any lingering feelings of isolation or loneliness which are so often accompanied by anxiety.

One thing you can be certain of is that there is some organization near you crying out for a volunteer just like you to assist them with their work.

The art of distraction has always been used to help people refocus and avoid concentrating on whatever physical or emotional discomfort the person is going through. It may just be the caring friend who invites their recently heart broken roommate out on the town to have some fun.

Dentists and doctors use distraction techniques frequently to distract the patient from a physical discomfort they may be experiencing, by giving them something else to focus on (usually the bill).

The purpose of using distraction, for people who want to live anxiety free, is to have new experiences that take the person’s mind off the anxious feelings they have been experiencing.

If you imagine that all the fearful anxious thoughts that go through your mind are like a roll of film being run through a film projector (your mind) and out into your life.

Concentrating on some activity immediately cuts the film and brings you directly into the here and now.

When you are fully engaged with life there is no room for any anxiety disorder. This mental space you create enables both your body and mind time to become less sensitized to the anxiety.

By doing something you enjoy and feel you are good at, helps build new competencies. You are saying to yourself that the anxiety path is not one you want to travel down anymore and that you will put your focus elsewhere.

The more time you give to following these rewarding pursuits, the easier it is for your body to relax and return to a natural state of peace.

Combine this with my ONE MOVE technique and people often look back weeks later and wonder if it was really them who was so anxious all the time. Note, it normally takes a few weeks to reduce feelings of general anxiety. That is the standard amount of time to come back to feeling more yourself.

Water Helps Ease General Anxiety!

Today I want to look at something so simple and yet equally powerful in alleviating the symptoms of general anxiety.

This tip also helps reduce the frequency and strength of panic attacks.

Fresh Drinking Water

Water is a great quencher of thirst but more importantly here -a great quencher of anxiety.

Nearly every function of the body is monitored and pegged to the efficient flow of water through our system. Water transports hormones, chemical messengers, and nutrients to vital organs of the body.

When we don’t keep our bodies well hydrated, they may react with a variety of signals… some of which are symptoms, of anxiety. Here is some interesting information about water

1. 75% of Americans are chronically dehydrated.

2. In 37% of Americans, the thirst mechanism is so
weak that it is often mistaken for hunger.

3. Even MILD dehydration will slow down one’s metabolism
as much as 3%.

4. One glass of water shut down midnight hunger pangs for
almost all of the dieters studied in a University of Washington study.

5. Lack of water, is the #1 trigger of daytime fatigue.

Regular fresh drinking water is a vital ingredient to your diet. This is something the medical profession has been telling us for years. When we are dehydrated our cells can feel this at a molecular level and communicate this to the subconscious as an underline subtle anxiety or threat to survival.


The key to re-balancing a deficit of fluids is to drink eight glasses of fresh water daily. You must spread this intake throughout the day and not drink it all in one go! Otherwise you don’t give your body a chance to absorb it.


Have you noticed the effects of dehydration on your emotions before? If you have ever suffered from a serious hangover after a night out on the town, you will understand the feeling of dehydration all too well.

Hangovers result from dehydration and electrolyte imbalance. I’m sure many of you are familiar with the “the hangover fear”. This is a heightened sense of anxiety and jumpiness that results from the dehydration of hangover.

The surest way for someone who suffers from high anxiety to experience yet more anxiety, is to drink excessive amounts of alcohol and wait for the hangover to set in the following day.

It is important to be aware that dehydration is a factor that contributes to anxiety and nervousness. The good news is that it is easily remedied by drinking regular fluids.

Personally, I have found that not only does regular intake of water ward off any subtle feelings of anxiety, but it is also incredibly useful for building stamina and avoiding fatigue. Give this some real consideration. Simply increasing the amount of fresh water you drink is a very easy step to incorporate into your daily routine. Most of us fall short of consuming the recommended amount.

Always remember that there is a lot of hope for an immediate and successful recovery from all forms of panic attacks and anxiety disorders. You can have the life of your dreams – Anxiety does not have the right to steal that hope from you.

Sometimes taking very small steps can lead to massive improvements. One of my favorite writers wrote about how everyone should approach their problems with the same philosophy as the woodpecker.

Keep chipping away at it and eventually the whole damn tree will collapse!

Cure Your Hypothyroidism by Tackling its Underlying Causes – Common Hypothyroid Drugs Proven Useless (new study)

Many people start complaining of an inactive thyroid and the symptoms of hypothyroidism as they age.

This has given rise to a situation where a specific drug to treat hypothyroid has become one of the most commonly prescribed drugs for elderly people in the United States.

But a study in the journal Annals of Internal Medicine now reveals that this drug has no health benefit.

On the contrary, it has been proven to cause stroke and heart attack.

Researchers from Denmark, Switzerland, Scotland, and the United States observed 638 people aged at least 65 years who had subclinical hypothyroidism.

This is a condition in which your thyroid hormones still test approximately normal, but your thyroid-stimulating hormone is too high. It means that your thyroid gland needs more stimulation than usual to produce the same amount of thyroid hormones as it should, and is often a precursor to full-blown hypothyroidism.

The most common symptoms of this condition are depression fatigue, muscle weakness, memory loss, and dry skin and hair.

The participants in this study had their thyroid-stimulating hormones tested and were diagnosed with subclinical hypothyroidism if they tested high twice, three months apart.

In the following year, participants received either L-Thyroxine (also known as Levothyroxine) or a sham drug (placebo) to see whether the two groups differed in symptom improvement.

By the end of this year, there was no difference between the two groups, suggesting that the drug made no difference to the condition at all.

The researchers even identified what they called a high-symptom burden group, participants who had the lowest quality of life, and the weakest hand strength. These are presumably the people who would grab at doctor’s drug prescriptions first, as their symptoms are the worst.

But even in this group, there was no difference between the drugs and the placebo.

As a result, the authors recommended against routine L-thyroxine use for elderly adults with subclinical hypothyroidism.

L-thyroxine or Levothyroxine is a form of the thyroid hormone thyroxine (T4) that is artificially manufactured in the laboratory.

Previous studies have revealed that this drug can cause stroke and heart attack, so since it’s completely useless for hypothyroidism, it’s best avoided.

If you’ve been diagnosed with hypothyroidism, the only solution the traditional medical system gives is a lifelong sentence of medications.

One complication of this disease is that it’s often blamed on different underlying causes, making its treatment more difficult.

A new study published in the journal BMC Endocrine Disorders reveals one cause of all types of hypothyroidism.

And it’s all about one cheap vitamin that you may even be able to get for free.

The researchers recruited 633 patients with immune hypothyroidism, 305 with nonimmune hypothyroidism, and 200 healthy participants as a control group.

Surprisingly, there was no difference between the vitamin D levels of the groups with inflammatory and non-inflammatory hypothyroidism.

People with a vitamin D deficiency are more likely to have autoimmune diseases like rheumatoid arthritis, multiple sclerosis, and type 1 diabetes.

So, the researchers expected to find that people with hypothyroidism caused by inflammation had lower vitamin D levels than those with non-inflammatory hypothyroidism.

But no—both groups tended to have too little vitamin D.

This indicates that no matter your type of hypothyroidism, you should make sure to get enough vitamin D.

Taking vitamin D supplements most likely will not be enough to cure hypothyroidism.

Cure Your Hypothyroidism by Tackling its Underlying Causes – This Common Hypothyroidism Treatment Kills

Sometimes the cure is worse than the disease.

There have been many cases where the actual medical treatment to “cure” one condition has led to a multitude of other health problems.

Essentially doctors treat one illness, only for it to be replaced by another health problem.

According to a recent study prepared for the annual meeting of the Endocrine Society, there is one treatment for hypothyroidism that causes early death in 90% of those who receive it.

Thyroid hormone replacement therapy is almost universally accepted to be the best treatment for hypothyroidism and it is often started before people start showing any symptoms of an underactive thyroid.

This new study has found this to be a huge mistake, as this treatment has been linked to many premature deaths in adults.

Your thyroid gland secretes a hormone called thyroxine (T4). To produce this hormone, your thyroid gland needs to be stimulated by the thyroid-stimulating hormone (TSH).

If doctors detect low levels of T4, they prescribe a synthetic version of it called levothyroxine to act as a T4 replacement.

But even when they find that you have normal T4 levels, they often prescribe this hormone replacement therapy, because elevated TSH suggests that your thyroid is underactive.

Scientists analyzed information of 1,054 elderly adults. This information included T4 and TSH readings.

They calculated the risk of death in the participants compared to those on thyroid hormone replacement therapy with their peers.

Those receiving therapy were 60 percent more likely to die early. This is alarming, but it gets worse.

When they compared people with normal T4 scores and normal TSH scores to people with normal T4 but elevated TSH scores who were receiving hormone replacement therapy, they found that people in the latter group were 90 percent more likely to die early.

Hormone replacement therapy was bad for people with hypothyroidism, but it was even worse for people who were treated prematurely.

These findings suggest two things.

1. Thyroid hormone replacement therapy increases your risk of death.

2. Elevated TSH scores as we age are normal and not a sign of hypothyroidism.

This is the reason why it is better to follow a healthy lifestyle to ensure that your body can balance its hormones naturally.
