For someone who is in intensive care with COVID-19, worrying about ED seems like something of a luxury.

But if you had COVID-19 and managed to shake it off some time ago and you are now struggling with ED, you’re not alone, as explained in a new study in the Journal of Endocrinological Investigation.

They identified some important possible causes of this relationship from the literature:

1. Vascular symptoms. Due to damage to blood vessels, heart disease causes EDErections are only possible if the blood vessels in your penis are flexible enough to allow for the influx and outflow of blood.

Because COVID-19 causes so much systemic inflammation, it can damage these blood vessels and thus make it difficult to achieve satisfactory erections. Many studies have linked COVID-19 to serious damage to the linings of the blood vessels (endothelial dysfunction) throughout the body.

2. Psychological damage. The pandemic has increased rates of depression, anxiety, and post-traumatic stress disorder, especially for people who have become seriously ill as a result of the virus. Sexual performance is linked to psychological well-being, so the rise in mental health problems may partly explain the increase of ED.

3. Low testosterone. Low testosterone levels have been tested in COVID-19 patients up to weeks after recovery. Post-mortem examinations of testicular tissue have also found testicular damage. Testosterone is not only necessary for strong erections, but also helps to suppress inflammation by helping to increase anti-inflammatory chemicals in your body.

4. Underlying conditions. It is likely that the people who suffered the worst bouts of COVID-19 were those who already had pre-existing conditions like heart disease and diabetes. Since COVID-19 may have exacerbated these conditions, and since ED is a consequence of both heart disease and diabetes, COVID-19 may have pushed survivors from subclinical into detectable ED.

5. Medication. COVID-19 has worsened the status of patients’ heart disease and doctors have prescribed heart disease drugs combat this. Unfortunately, many of these drugs can cause ED. the most common culprits being β-blockers.

Putting all these factors together, it seems quite possible that COVID-19 can lead to ED, even after recovery.

I have some really good news for men suffering from ED!

Researchers from the University of Milan in Italy have discovered that men suffering severe ED are lacking one essential vitamin.

This vitamin is either cheap or free, depending on where in the world you live, and supplementing causes no side effects. So you could correct your ED in a matter of days.

In this study, published in the Journal of Sexual Medicine, scientists measured vitamin D levels in 143 men with erectile dysfunction.

They found that those suffering from the most severe erectile dysfunction had significantly lower levels of vitamin D than those who only had mild erectile dysfunction.

This strongly indicates that lacking vitamin D can lead to severe erectile dysfunction. Even if this deficiency doesn’t cause ED, it worsens it at the very least.

The fact is that everyday use of antibacterial soaps and gels have never been shown to deliver any health benefits. To the contrary; over sterilizing can weaken your immune system.

I recommend using only organic soap found in your local health food store. Triclosan is only one of many chemicals found in antibacterial products, and I’m sure that research will reveal the other types to be just as dangerous.

Reduce Risk of ED – ED Risk Increased by 460% from Lacking This

Men who lack this one hormone in a specific way are 4.6 times more likely to suffer ED than those who have plenty of it.

Some swear that supplementing with it is more effective than taking risky prescription medications.

But there is a catch. If you lack this hormone in a different way, it has no effect on ED.

Testosterone has become a marketing word somewhat in the medical world. Doctors are prescribing pills and patches left and right to heal anything from high blood pressure to lack of libido or erectile dysfunction.

But a Chinese study published in the Journal of Sexual Medicine put this issue to a scientific test.

Regularly measuring testosterone (TT), free testosterone (FT) and sex hormone-binding globulin (SHBG) in 733 men for four years, the researchers found a weird connection.

Men between 20 and 40 years old had a 20% increased risk of erectile dysfunction if they had low free testosterone (FT). But there was no increased risk if they had low total testosterone (TT), as long as FT was normal.

This is an important difference. You see, 98 – 99% of all testosterone in your body is tied up by glycoprotein sex hormone-binding globulin (SHBG). Meaning, it is not available to be used. Only the 1-2% testosterone that is FREE, can be used by your body.

The total amount of testosterone doesn’t make any difference, therefore, since it’s not available to be used. Taking prescription testosterone may not do you any good, because it will mostly be tied up by SHBG.

In fact, the researchers found the biggest increased risk of erectile dysfunction among young men who had a low level of FT and a high level of SHBG. Those men were 4.6 times more likely to suffer ED than men with high FT and low SHBG.

Now even more interesting was that in men over 40, the level of TT, FT, and SHBG had no impact on their risk of erectile dysfunction.

So what is it then that causes erectile dysfunction in men over 40?

You see, just like other muscles in the body become stiffer and less flexible with age, the muscles around the genitals tense up blocking blood flow into the penis.

These muscles are extremely delicate, so even small amounts of tension can have devastating effects on your sex life. The good news is, just a little effort to loosen up and strengthen these muscles will boost your penis with blood strongly effecting the quality of erection.

Note: The penis is not a muscle. So exercises that involve pulling or pressing it directly don’t work. The exercises I’m talking about are for the muscles in the pelvic area that help pump blood into the penis.

Sexual function can be so easily derailed by a wide range of serious and non-serious conditions elsewhere in your body.

A new study in the journal Andrology has now revealed a fundamental cause of ED.

And it starts in your gums, of all places.

Periodontitis is the sixth most common disease in the world. This inflammatory infection of your gums is caused by bacteria that live and accumulate on your teeth and gums.

Bacterial plaques accumulate on your teeth and spread towards their roots. This causes the gums to pull away from your teeth and allows bacteria to accumulate in the holes that consequently form between your teeth and gums.

Your immune system tries to fight these bacteria with inflammation, which damages the gums even further. Eventually, the gums and the bones that support the teeth completely dissolve, causing the teeth to fall out.

Having missing teeth is already a self-esteem problem; to make things worse, consider the ED that the French and Canadian authors of the new study believe may result from periodontitis.

They noticed that previous studies had found a relationship between periodontitis and ED. They conducted a review of the literature to determine how common this finding is.

They identified 19 relevant studies; the smallest had 53 subjects and the largest had 197,136. They were all performed on adults, with an average age of around 41 years.

Almost all of the studies found a significant link between periodontitis and ED, with the most severe cases of periodontitis also having the most severe cases of ED.

As one would expect, age was one of the most common factors the two conditions shared, with elderly people being the most likely to suffer from both periodontitis and ED.

Tobacco use and systemic conditions such as cardiovascular disease and diabetes were also common in people with both conditions, as were obesity and medications that reduce saliva production.

Some of the studies also examined the relationship between periodontitis and sexual hormones, with lower testosterone levels found in people with periodontitis in two of the three relevant studies.

So how can a condition in your mouth affect your sexual health?

Most of the researchers speculated that the high levels of inflammation in the mouth that result from the fight against the bacteria become systemic. In other words, inflammatory substances spread from your mouth through your bloodstream to your entire body, including the penis.

Inflammation damages the inner linings of blood vessels. This causes endothelial dysfunction, which many previous studies have proven to play a role in both heart disease and ED when blood vessels in the penis are affected.

Systemic inflammation also causes oxidative stress and reduces nitric oxide levels in blood vessels, which further reduces blood vessel function.

So the most important thing is to tackle inflammation in your body at the source. There is one single cause of almost all inflammation—and it’s quite easy to counteract, as I explain here…

To Permanently Cure ED, Cut This Out (literally, slash it)

Although there has been no proof until now, a connection between hyperparathyroidism (overactive parathyroid gland) and erectile dysfunction has been speculated by many doctors.

The researchers from the University of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, wanted to put this theory to the test.

They analyzed data from 160 men who underwent parathyroidectomy (a surgery where one or more of the parathyroid glands is removed). Every patient completed a list of “yes or no” questionnaires before surgery and again six months after surgery.

Twenty-one men reported erectile dysfunction before the surgery. Two were using erectile dysfunction medications.

Six months after the surgery, only seven men (one-third) still suffered ED. And the two men who were taking medications didn’t need them anymore.

This was, of course, a very small study. Much more research is needed to get any reliable data. But you may want to have your doctor check your thyroid activity if you experience erectile dysfunction.

What the study shows for sure is that your hormones do affect your erection strength. Therefore, it is essential that you take supplements that balance your gland’s efficiency and hormone levels.

Permanently Cure ED – Why ED Medications Do Not Work and What to Do Instead

ED medications have become so common that they’re almost considered the norm for men over 50.
