Here is How to Exercise to Get Rid of Sagging Jowls

You are without a doubt looking forward to learning how to get rid of sagging jowls – that is presumably why you are here.

The term “jowls” refers to the flesh along the lower jaw especially when fleshy or sagging. If the skin in your lower cheeks seems to hang along or sink below the jawline, then you have sagging jowls

They tend to affect women more, beginning to appear in their 40's but in some people, they may occur as early as 20's. Although anyone can be affected by jowls, people with fuller faces tend to get them much later compared to their narrower-faced counterparts.

Facial exercises to combat wrinkles and get rid of sagging jowls, or the loose skin of the lower cheeks and jaw, will help by improving your facial muscles and tightening the skin.

Rather than concentrating only on the jowls, practice exercises that challenge each region of your face to ensure even results. Keep a consistent exercise regimen; visible improvement may take months.

Specific exercises to get rid of sagging jowls will work if performed in conjunction with a workout for your whole body. Spot-reducing trouble areas unfortunately is not possible; but if you perform at least 150 to 300 minutes a week of moderately-intense aerobic exercise, along with two days a week of strength training and eating a healthy diet -- you will be able to see the results of your spot-specific exercises once you have lost excess weight.

The chewing motion is an exercise suited to get rid of sagging jowls. Tilt your head up slightly with your lips almost touching and perform a set of 20 chewing motions each day to help tighten your jowls and eliminate a double chin. Each chewing motion takes approximately 1 second and is the same motion you'd use to chew food or gum.

Draw your face into a pout while using your fingers to pull down the corners of your mouth. Hold it for five seconds and repeat the exercise 10 times, twice a day. Performing this exercise while lying down improves its efficacy.

Exercising the muscles involved in smiling helps tone sagging jowls. Grin as widely as possible with your teeth showing, and hold it while tilting your head back and forth. Switch the grin for a frown and repeat the exercise.
Alternatively, close your lips in a tight smile and clench the muscles of your neck, holding the position for a minute. Flex your neck muscles during this exercise if you prefer.

Another exercise that works to get rid of sagging jowls, entails placing your bottom lip over your top lip, tilting your head and holding a frozen smile until it becomes uncomfortable. Repeat each of these exercises a few times daily.

Other exercises geared toward tightening the jowls involve moving your lips, cheek muscles and jaws. You have more than 50 muscles in your face, so options abound for exercising these muscles.

Start exercising before your jowls begin to sag to help prevent the problem from occurring. Choosing these natural exercises to get rid of sagging jowls over other methods such as cosmetic surgery avoids associated problems such as nerve damage and saves money, too.

More advices

·         If you are more likely to get dark circles and bags under your eyes, then you need to rest and sleep well in order to avoid this. The main factor for this issue is fatigue. You cannot eliminate the dark circles if you are not well rested.

·         You should try to avoid everything that can lead to water retention in the body like excessive consumption of salt and physical inactivity. Instead, eat foods rich in Vitamin A, C and E (all found in dark green vegetables)

·         It is also recommended to consume ate least 2 liters of water every day. If your body is hydrated it can prevent fluid retention, release the toxins and also ameliorate the health of the skin. In this way you will be able to remove the dark circles and bags faster. Also cut down on coffee consumption which can cause dehydration.

·         You need to take good care of your skin by using quality moisturizers and it is also important to provide good protection from damage by sun exposure.

·         Do not rub your eyes incessantly. A lot of people have this habit and they are not even aware that they are doing it. This is a very bad habit and it can damage and irritate the delicate tissues and also interrupt the treatments for the removal of the dark circles.

·         Do not overuse cosmetic products because they can cause negative effects and also cause inflammation around the eyes.

·         Stay out of the sun. We all want to look sun-kissed, but the sun can damage the delicate skin under your eyes more easily than other places, bringing on premature wrinkles and darkening the under-eye area. Remember to load up on the SPF and keep out of UV rays.

·         Lie on your back when you sleep. If you sleep on your face, you may find that you wake up with puffiness under the eyes, as fluid is more likely to build up there due to gravity. Sleeping on your back or with your head elevated could balance fluid retention and alleviate puffiness.

·         Wear a sleep mask. Though wearing an eye mask will not explicitly improve dark circles, they will improve your quality of sleep meaning you are more rested and so puffiness/darkness under the eyes is lessened.

What are the Best Treatments for Laugh Lines?

Read on here to understand what are laugh lines, what causes laugh lines and what are the best treatments for laugh lines.

·         What are laugh lines?
·         What causes laugh lines?
·         What are the best treatments for laugh lines?

Who does not want to laugh over and over again? We want to laugh because laugh is all about being happy. I am talking about the laugh due to some reason because it is not a good sign to laugh without any reason.

Why We Get Laugh Lines?

Laugh lines around the eyes are first apparent only when you smile. But sun damage and the passage of time take their toll, eventually making these lines visible when your face is at rest.

Natural aging process also brings laugh lines. Middle ages and old people are not the only recipients of laugh lines. Often young people also get have laugh lines. There are some other reasons as well behind getting laugh lines.

People often get laugh lines;

·         Due to the skin type
·         Due to genetic makeup
·         Due to unhealthy lifestyle
·         Due to poor skincare regimen
·         Due to unhealthy eating habits
·         Due to excessive unaided sun exposure

How to Avoid Laugh Lines?

A little bit care can save us from fine lines, wrinkles, smoker’s lines, and laugh lines. One of the ways to keep laugh lines at bay is to take healthy food on a timely manner.

Avoiding sun is a good way to keep the skin healthy. Moreover, avoiding smoking and getting a good night’s sleep is also helpful. The people who drink plenty of water can also avoid laugh lines.

Another way to keep your skin from aging prematurely is by using sunscreen and sunblock whenever you go outdoors. You can use both sunscreen and physical blockers to protect your skin from the sun.

Sunscreen formulations should have an SPF of 30+ and contain broad spectrum sunscreens. You should also use a physical blocker like zinc oxide or titanium dioxide to further protect your skin.

You can also prevent laugh lines by using aloe vera gel. Apply a teaspoon of aloe vera gel to your face and let it dry by itself. The malic acid in the gel will help to remove laugh lines from your face.

To take care of your skin, use gentle cleansers and moisturizers daily, get regular exercise and drink plenty of water. Taking these measures early on can help you keep your skin supple and youthful longer.

You can also do some facial exercise to get rid of laugh lines. When these exercises are done consistently and properly, they can work wonders.

What are the Available Treatments for Laugh Lines?

Non-surgical treatments for laugh lines and wrinkles

Hyaluronic Acid Fillers for Wrinkles and Laugh Lines

For smile lines, you can opt for hyaluronic acid fillers, such as Restylane®, Juvéderm®, Sculptra® and Juvéderm Voluma®. These solutions are applied via injection along the crease extending from the nose to the sides of the mouth. They’re meant to fill in the creases. The effects can last anywhere from six months to a full year.

One advantage of these fillers is that you can see a difference immediately. And they’re reversible. If you don’t like how you look after the procedure, the doctor can inject hyaluronidase to counteract the effects.

Collagen loss can also be addressed quite effectively with cosmetic lasers like Fraxel Dual. Fraxel Dual uses longer wavelengths to deliberately apply heat to the dermal layer. Your skin perceives this as an injury and creates healthy new collagen as a result. This laser system is also safe for the eye area.

You should consult with a board certified dermatologist to determine if a single solution or a combination of treatments would be best for you

One of the best nonsurgical treatments for these fine lines involves the use of neuromodulators, or botulinum toxins.

Botulinum toxins, also known as Botox®, Xeomin® and Dysport®, can reduce the appearance of laugh lines and rejuvenate the face.

Small amounts of botulinum toxin are injected in and around the affected area, temporarily weakening or paralyzing the muscles there.

Some people have the treatment in conjunction with skin resurfacing procedures, such as laser treatment to further improve the quality of the skin.

Whether lasers are used in conjunction with botulinum toxin or not, the rejuvenating effects last about three months, at which time you’ll have to see your doctor for another treatment.

Don’t like needles? There’s a topical botulinum toxin formulation in the works, but the FDA has yet to approve it. If it’s approved, you’ll have the option of smoothing your laugh lines and crow’s feet without the need for multiple injections.

You can also choose products that have natural and powerful antioxidants such as a high quality skin cream which you can get from departmental stores or drug stores.

To remove laugh lines and wrinkles around the mouth, the anti-wrinkle cream must be able to stimulate the growth of collagen and elastin, which are proteins that keep your skin youthful and smooth. Other ingredients that are essential to fight wrinkles include Cynergy Tk, natural Vitamin E and active Manuka honey.

Surgical treatments for laugh lines and wrinkles

If you’re looking for a more permanent solution, or if your doctor says you’re not a candidate for the nonsurgical options, you can opt for a surgical solution.

Depending on your facial anatomy, the surgeon may suggest surgical alteration of the brow, neck area or eyelids, or even a combination of these. Of course, if you want to go all out in your quest for a more youthful appearance that will last several years, you can opt to have a complete face lift.

Your doctor may suggest using one of the nonsurgical products to add prominence to your cheeks and upper face along with surgery. The effects of these last much longer than other fillers.

It seems like it happens overnight: you wake up, yawn, stretch, and lumber over to the bathroom to brush your teeth.  You look up into the mirror mid-brush and see skin on your neck that appears to be sagging or loose where it never was before.

The extra skin, sometimes unflatteringly referred to as turkey neck, can be the result of a combination of factors, including genetics and environmental factors.

If you feel like your skin is aging prematurely, take a look at this list of surprising habits that can lead to the appearance of aging — it includes everything from washing your face too much to using your makeup incorrectly.

The good news is that you don’t have to simply accept your aging skin. In fact, you can easily tighten neck skin with some quick exercises — and you don’t even have to leave your home to do them.

Keep reading to find some helpful tips to both prevent and tighten saggy neck skin without having to resort to surgery.

What Is Turkey Neck?

“Turkey neck” is a slang term for loose, wrinkly or sagging skin around your neck area. It is called a turkey neck because it can resemble those red wattles that hang down from underneath a turkey’s neck.

The primary difference between a double chin and a turkey neck are that the double chin is caused by extra fat deposits around the chin. Turkey necks, on the other hand, are usually a result of aging.

What Causes Turkey Neck?

More often than not, turkey neck is a result of aging. According to WebMD, as we age, our skin naturally loses elasticity and has a more difficult time “snapping back” like younger skin does.

Factors like genetics, sun exposure, and smoking may also contribute to early aging.
Another factor that we can easily take action on is muscle tone. Our skin is supported by muscles, which can weaken with age and lack of use.

This is actually good news, because we can do exercises to strengthen muscles, increase circulation and reduce the effects of aging on our necks, according to Scientific American.

Below are some proven exercises to tighten and strengthen the muscles in your neck.

Get Rid of Turkey Neck Method #1: The “Gulping Fish”

·         Look up at the ceiling.
·         Place one hand at your collarbone and apply gentle downward pressure.
·         Jut out your lower jaw and lip toward the ceiling. Do you feel the slight pull down and across your neck? This is the sensation that you want.
·         Jut your jaw out five times, each time feeling the tightening down and across your neck.
·         Switch hands and repeat the action five more times.
·         Repeat three to five times a week to firm up the skin around your neck, minimize or eliminate wrinkles, and prevent cording.

Get Rid of Turkey Neck Method #2: Neck Lift

·         Lying on your back, raise your head and your neck very gently, and slightly off the ground.
·         Turn your head slowly to the right and then to the left before facing forward again and lowering your head back to the ground.
·         Repeat as many times as you can comfortably do it while maintaining good control.  You don’t want to jerk your head and neck. The movement should always be small and controlled.
·         Stop immediately if you feel any pain.
·         Repeat three to five times a week to strengthen and tone your neck.

Get Rid of Turkey Neck Method #3: The Gum Chew

·         Sit up straight and with your mouth and lips closed, tilt your head back and toward the ceiling.
·         While keeping your lips shut, bring your teeth apart and then back together again slowly as if you were chewing a big wad of chewing gum.
·         Slowly “chew” this way 20 times.
·         Repeat three to five times a week to tighten neck skin and reduce turkey neck.

Get Rid of Turkey Neck Method #4: Forehead Push

·         Place one hand on your forehead.
·         Push your head against your hand without allowing your head to move forward.
·         Hold the forward momentum and tension for a slow count of 10.
·         Reverse the motion by knitting your hands together behind your head and pushing backward for a slow count of 10.
·         Repeat three to five times a week to tighten and tone neck muscles.

Get Rid of Turkey Neck Method #5: Smooch

·         Sit up straight and lift your head toward the ceiling.
·         Purse your lips and make a kissing face toward the ceiling.
·         Send 20 air smooches in the direction of your ceiling fan or chandelier.
·         Repeat three to five times a week to tighten your neck skin.

Get Rid of Turkey Neck Method #6: Neck Lift

·         Lie face down on your bed with your head dangling off the edge and relax your body.
·         Slowly lift your head up, only using your neck muscles so that you are parallel to the floor.
·         Repeat five times, stopping immediately if you feel any pain.
·         This is a small, controlled movement; do not jerk or twist your neck in any way.
·         Repeat three to five times a week to tighten neck muscles and reduce the effects of aging on your neck.

How to Prevent Turkey Neck?

There is usually a genetic component to turkey neck, so if your grandma or mother have it, then it may happen to you as well. With that being said, maintaining good muscle tone can definitely shrink down the prospect of a turkey neck, or even prevent it.

Another preventative measure is to apply a moisturizer on your face and neck daily, according to Health.com and Selfcare.com.

Always practice good sun protection. Use a lotion or a moisturizer that has an SPF in it. Wear and reapply sunscreen if you are going to be outdoors for a substantial period of time. Also, do not indulge in tanning beds!

It is possible to combat the effects of aging on your skin, and to minimize, if not prevent, turkey neck.
