How Best to Choose Your Anti-Aging Products?

Key ingredients to look out for your anti-aging products are retinols (which promote cell turnover) and hydroquinone (which helps lighten dark spots); alpha hydroxy acids such as glycolic acid and hyaluronic acid (which help exfoliate the skin); antioxidants like vitamin C (which ward off damage from free radicals), and of course, SPF

1. Buy Power Ingredients

Familiarize yourself with ingredients that have significant studies proving their efficacy, says Shereene Idriss, M.D., of New York City's Union Square Laser Dermatology.

"Key ingredients to look out for your anti-aging products are retinols (which promote cell turnover) and hydroquinone (which helps lighten dark spots); alpha hydroxy acids such as glycolic acid and hyaluronic acid (which help exfoliate the skin); antioxidants like vitamin C (which ward off damage from free radicals), and of course, SPF," says Idriss. Top formulas will even combine ingredients for healthier, younger-looking skin.

2. Do Some Research Before You Buy Anti-Aging Products

That said, even if a cleanser or cream contains a good ingredient, it can be difficult to know how pure and effective it really is, says Arisa Ortiz, M.D., Director of Laser and Cosmetic Dermatology and Assistant Clinical Professor in the Department of Dermatology at UC San Diego.

Do your research and pick products from reputable brands, she advises.

"My favorite product lines are Alastin, SkinMedica, Neocutis, and Skinceuticals," says Ortiz, who uses these brands on her own skin.

If you're in doubt about a skin-care product, talk to your dermatologist for recommendations or visit cosmeticsinfo.org, a consumer site from the Personal Care Products Council with extensive information about the safety, testing, and regulation of cosmetics and personal products.

You can also check out the recommendations of the American Academy of Dermatology on how to choose an anti-aging product.

Another thing to keep in mind: Anti-aging products that promise results that "affect the structure or function of the body," for example by eliminating wrinkles or increasing collagen production, are technically considered drugs, per the Food and Drug Administration (FDA).

Therefore, they require FDA approval (read: scientific research backing up their claims) before promising users those types of results.

Check out the FDA's list of companies that have received warning letters for selling cosmetics with unapproved anti-aging claims to avoid buying something that may not be backed up by science.

3. Skip The Hype

If a product miraculously claims to solve all of your anti-aging needs and then some, it's a red flag to think twice before purchasing. "No single product is your answer to anti-aging, in the same way that no single food will keep you healthy," says Idriss.

A great anti-aging routine is a balance of incorporating various ingredients that each target different aspects of the aging process in your unique complexion, she says.

So, for example, look to a peel to brighten dark spots, a serum to target fine lines and wrinkles, and a moisturizer to hydrate.

You should be skeptical of ultra-trendy anti-aging treatments, such as products with plant stem cells, since many of them haven't been backed by a lot of research.

"There is no scientific evidence to show that plant stem cells could have regenerative effects on human skin, so save your money and pass!" says Idriss.

In order to be effective, stem cells must be kept alive, and the reality is that they're too fragile to remain intact in skincare formulations—plus they're too large to penetrate skin, she says.

"That being said, human stem-cell technologies are making huge advancements and are likely to revolutionize skincare in years to come," adds Idriss.

Meanwhile, Ortiz says to skip those anti-aging products that claim to contain collagen in favor of those with ingredients with growth factors and retinoids that help stimulate collagen production

The collagen molecule itself is too large to penetrate through skin, leaving it to sit on top of your complexion with no truly beneficial function, Ortiz says.

With this info, you should be armed with the confidence (and the knowledge) that will help you find the right anti-aging products for you.

Here are the 9 best anti-aging oils for younger looking skin

In order to maintain the optimal look of the younger looking skin, you need to replace the lack of oils with other natural oils in order to keep it moisturized and smooth. Here are the 9 best anti-aging oils for younger looking skin.

Over time, the natural production of oil in the skin is reduced, and it loses its elasticity, leading to fine lines, wrinkles, and sagging skin.

Therefore, in order to maintain the optimal look of the younger looking skin, you need to replace the lack of oils with other natural oils in order to keep it moisturized and smooth.

Numerous natural oils have potent anti-aging properties, and their use rejuvenates, hydrates, and softens the skin.

Coconut oil is one of the most beneficial natural oils. It prevents aging signs, such as age spots and wrinkles, and acts as a natural sunscreen which prevents sun damage.

To get younger looking skin, add 2 tablespoons of it in your regular diet to prevent age-related diseases and boost overall health. Also, massage the skin with it after showering to keep the skin well-hydrated.

Olive oil is perfect for rejuvenating the skin and keeping it soft and younger-looking. It is high in fatty acids, minerals, and vitamins E and A, and thus protects against free-radical damage. Warm it a bit and massage the skin for 5-10 minutes every day after showering, to boost blood circulation.

Argan Oil, extracted from a very unique tree found only in Morocco, is made up of 80 percent fatty acids that help fight free radicals and provide anti-aging benefits.

The vitamins A and E in this oil also help reduce wrinkles, age spots, fine lines and sagging skin. It effectively keeps the skin moisturized and improves the skin’s elasticity. It even protects the skin from oxidative damage from ultraviolet (UV) sunrays.

A 2015 study published in Clinical Interventions in Aging suggests that daily intake and/or topical application of argan oil has an anti-aging effect on the skin, demonstrated by the improvement of skin elasticity.

Argan oil is absorbed quickly by the skin and without leaving any oily residue. Thus, it is suitable for all skin types, including oily and sensitive skin.

– After thoroughly cleansing your skin, apply a few drops of argan oil on your skin and massage gently using circular motions. Do this daily before going to bed, if you want to have younger looking skin. Also, include 1 tablespoon of culinary argan oil in your regular diet. Its nutty flavor adds richness to sweet and savory dishes.

Almond oil can help you prevent the aging of skin and it’s excellent against wrinkles. It contains plenty of vitamins E and K. You just have to rub it on your face and body after you take a bath.

To get younger looking skin, apply some almond oil under your bottom eyelids before you go to bed. In the morning, you’ll notice that the dark bags under your eyes are gone.

Jojoba oil is one of the most hydrating oils in the world that offers anti-aging benefits. Jojobaoil is very characteristic for containing vitamins E and C which are essential for a younger looking skin.

Massage your skin with blended jojoba in equal amounts. Do this once daily.

Lavender Essential Oil is also great for aging skin. Lavender is much more than its sweet fragrance and is used extensively on cosmetic products.

It also has antifungal and antiseptic properties which helps treating a number of skin conditions, such as acne and psoriasis. With lavender essential oil you will sleep better at nights.

Add 5 or 6 drops of lavender essential oil to 1 table spoon of Aloe Vera gel. Massage gently after you apply this on your skin. Wait only 10 minutes and then rinse it off with cool water. We recommend you to do every day to get younger looking skin.

Avocado Oil can keep your skin younger and free from aging signs. It is great for people with dry skin. Avocado oil is very rich in vitamins A and E that help reverse age-related skin damage. It keeps the existing cells and tissues healthy.

Pomegranate Seed Oil – Another excellent anti-aging oil is pomegranate seed oil. This oil is powerful antioxidant which fights and repairs free-radical damage caused by exposure to the sun and environmental factors that age skin.

It has antimicrobial, anti-inflammatory and healing properties that support skin health. You can use it on the face as well as the entire body.

It has powerful regenerating properties that prevent skin issues or aging signs.

It contains high amounts of vitamin A and E and has strong antioxidant effects which protect against free radical damage to skin cells.

Mix it with honey in equal amounts, and apply the combination to the skin and rinse it off after 15-20 minutes. Repeat on a daily basis.

You can also mix a few drops of it with a tablespoon of fresh Aloe Vera gel, and apply the mixture to the skin. Massage gently for 5 minutes, and leave it to act for 10 more minutes.

Neem oil has health-promoting as well as anti-aging qualities. It has antioxidant as well as antiviral, antifungal, analgesic, anti-inflammatory, antibacterial and antimicrobial properties.

Its antioxidant nature protects the skin from environmental toxins that accelerate the aging process. This oil is also high in polyunsaturated fatty acids and vitamin E, which help rejuvenate skin cells and restore elasticity.

A 2001 study published in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition notes that polyunsaturated fatty acids provide protection to the whole body against damage from UV irradiation.

Vitamin E has an emollient effect on skin and helps reduce the appearance of fine lines, age spots and wrinkles.

Neem oil also helps fight off bacteria that cause acne, psoriasis and eczema.

To get younger looking skin, mix 1 tablespoon of neem oil in 1/3 cup of lukewarm olive or coconut oil. Massage your skin with this mixture for 5 minutes and then leave it on for another 10 minutes. You don’t need to rinse it off. Do this once daily before going to bed.

Note: Before using anything of the things listed above, do a patch test to rule out the possibility of developing an allergic reaction.

The Silhouette Lift – A Non-Surgical Facelift Alternative

If you find yourself in front of a mirror moving your cheeks upward with your fingers, you might be ready to entertain options to keep them up there. This situation describes would-be patients of facial rejuvenation, but probably doesn’t point to a need for surgical intervention. If you’re young and your face is only mildly starting to “fall,” you may be a good candidate for the Silhouette Lift. It’s an effective, minimally-invasive alternative to the traditional, and surgical, facelift.

Massachusetts board certified plastic surgeon Dr. Christine Hamori says it’s not uncommon for women to contact her office in the weeks leading up to an important life event for a procedure. They want to refresh their look with little or no downtime.

“Let’s say their daughter is getting married, and they contact the office with three months to go until the wedding. They want to look the best they can. They don’t have time to recover from a facelift, or they don’t want the expense of surgery,” shares Hamori.

By combining a Silhouette Lift with a little bit of filler, she is able to provide her patients both lift and volume within a short time frame.

Traditional Thread Lift vs. Silhouette Lift

The Silhouette Lift is a technological advance on the thread lift that become popular in the 90’s. Thread lifts used surgical sutures, called threads, with little barbs that made it easy to move the thread in one direction (upward) but very difficult to move in the opposite direction (downward).

If you’ve ever used a zip tie, you can visualize how barbs can make movement in one direction easy and movement in the opposite direction difficult. During a thread lift, the thread was inserted in the lower portion of the cheek, then pulled through the tissues below the skin, lifting them upward, and finally anchoring them into position.

The permanent sutures used in thread lifts posed several problems. Once anchored, the sutures had a tendency to cut through the soft tissues of the face, a condition referred to as cheese wiring.

When permanent sutures cut through the deeper tissues of the face instead of holding them in a lifted position, it negated the purpose of the lift. In some cases the permanent sutures even became visible.

Instead of permanent threads, the Silhouette Lift utilizes a fully-absorbable suture. As your body slowly absorbs the suture, it replaces it entirely with collagen. Each absorbable suture contains pea-sized, cone-shaped beads. These cone-shaped beads are also fully absorbable.

Unlike the permanent sutures used in thread lifts that could only lift skin in one direction and had to be anchored, the cones on the absorbable sutures are bidirectional and self-anchoring.

The Silhouette Lift accomplishes 3 goals:

1) Tighten skin from the inside
2) Lift tissues below the skin
3) Stimulate collagen production

How It’s Done

Dr. Hamori administers a local anesthetic to the area that will be treated, keeping the patient awake for the approximately hour-long procedure.

Next, a fine needle is used to insert the Silhouette thread.

The bidirectional cones on the thread anchor it into position just below the skin. Since the cones oppose each other, the tissue above the suture serves as an anchor and the tissue below is both tightened and lifted.

Where the needles exit the face, Dr. Hamori cuts the suture flush with the skin. She repeats this process, placing three threads in each cheek to provide optimal lift and tightening.

Recovery

When the Silhouette Lift is complete, the results are immediate and they last up to eighteen months.

“There’s a bit of bruising in the area,” shares Hamori, who goes on to add that the most difficult part of the recovery for her patients is the restriction on smiling for ten days following the procedure.

For the first week or two, the cone shaped beads are palpable. After several weeks you can no longer feel the beads, as they become integrated into the tissues they are lifting. Eventually, your body replaces the sutures entirely with collagen.

The Ideal Candidate for a Silhouette Lift

The best candidate for a Silhouette Lift is someone who has only a small amount of skin laxity. It should not be done on someone who has a lot of loose skin on their face and neck. In those cases, the best option to lift the face would be surgery.

“On someone with heavy skin, it doesn’t work well either,” says Hamori. “Those little peas, those little shuttles, can only pull so much. You have to choose your patients correctly.”

Fillers replace lost volume. Botox can help smooth wrinkles. Laser resurfacing can address skin tone and texture. And until recently, the lifting of fallen facial tissues could only be addressed with surgery. For the right patient, the Silhouette Lift fills a previously unmet need for providing lift with little downtime.

3 Best Anti-Aging Skin Care Tips for Younger Looking Skin

How do you take care of your skin to prevent premature aging and damage caused by the external factors mentioned above? Here is a list of some of the best anti-aging skin care tips to help you look after your skin

CLICK HERE to Learn about The Best Facial Yoga Toning System to Look Younger

"I’m a big believer in that if you focus on good skin care, you really won’t need a lot of make-up – Demi Moore.

Not only is your skin the largest organ in your body, but it is also the first line of defence against the harsh rays of the summer sun, the cold winter weather, air-conditioned offices and shopping malls, as well as environmental toxins and pollution.

The results of a study published in 2013 in the Clinical, Cosmetic and Investigational Dermatology Journal found that 80% of skin aging is as a result of the harmful effects of UV as well as exposure to the sun.

Therefore, the question that begs is how do you take care of your skin to prevent premature aging and damage caused by the external factors mentioned above?

Anti-aging skin care tips

By way of answering the question posed above, here is a list of some of the best anti-aging skin care tips to help you look after your skin:

Anti-aging skin care tips #1- Implement a daily skin care routine

To protect and nourish your skin it is vital to implement a daily skin care regimen. Because your skin works 24/7 to protect your body, it is essential to feed, cleanse, and hydrate it twice per day.

There are many products available on the market for all different types of skin. Therefore, it is a good idea to purchase a range of skin care products that suits your skin type.

Anti-aging skin care tips #2- Drink lots of water

Your skin, like any other organ, is made up of cells which in turn are made up of water. Therefore, water is a crucial part of a cell's ability to function optimally.

If you do not drink enough water, your skin will start dehydrating causing a tight, dry, and flaky skin which is prone to wrinkling.

Additionally, your skin is the last organ to receive the water that you drink; therefore, it is important to hydrate your skin externally. This will improve its hydration as well as help to prevent wrinkles.

Anti-aging skin care tips #3- Regular exercise

Peter Jaret of WebMD.com notes that “regular exercise is one of the keys to a healthy skin.” Primarily, it improves your cardiovascular system which, in turn, can pump more blood to your skin; thereby, nourishing your skin cells. In essence, blood carries nutrients and oxygen to all of the working cells in your body, including your skin cells.

Furthermore, your blood helps carry away waste products from your skin to be neutralised by your liver. Therefore, exercise gets your heart pumping faster, which in turn sends nutrients and oxygen to your skin’s cells and removes toxins and waste products from your skin’s cells. Final words

Even though it is a challenge to take time out of your busy daily schedule, it is important to take care of your skin. Not only to prevent aging, but to also prevent damage caused by the environment and the modern world that you live in.

4 Face Exercises to Get a Natural Facelift Without Surgery

If you are looking for natural ways to look younger, to eliminate wrinkles, here are 4 face exercises you can try immediately and 2 video clips demonstration about facial exercises.

Who needs the pain and expense of a face-lift when you can get the same effect naturally at home? “Exercising the face firms up muscles so skin stays taut,” says Danielle Collins, creator of the 10 Minute Natural Facelift DVD ($15, Amazon.com).”

It also revs circulation so more oxygen and nourishment reach cells to stimulate collagen and elastin production, reducing wrinkles.” Do the following face exercises once daily to look up to 10 years younger by the end of the month!

Face Exercises Tip #1 - Nix forehead furrows.

Activating the frontalis and occipitalis muscles (which draw the forehead up and down) reverses the deep wrinkles that form above the eyebrows as a result of repetitive facial movements.

Try it: Place your hands on your forehead, fingers facing inward, and spread your fingers between your eyebrows and hairline. Applying light pressure, gently sweep your fingers outward (hands pulling away from each other) across the forehead. Relax and repeat 10 times.

Face Exercises Tip #2 - Smooth crows-feet.

Exercising the orbicularis oculi muscle (which surrounds the entire eye) strengthens the area to help lessen the look of fine lines and prevent new creases from forming.

Try it: Put your middle fingers together between your eyebrows, then apply pressure to the outer corners of your eyes using your index fingers. Look upward as you squint your eyes, then relax and repeat the process 6 times. To finish, squeeze your eyes shut for 10 seconds, then relax.

Face Exercises Tip #3 - Diminish laugh lines.

Strengthening the orbicularis oculi muscle (which, in addition to surrounding the eye, runs around the mouth) helps reduce laugh lines and firm up cheeks and jowls.

Try it: Cover your teeth with your lips and make an O with your mouth. Keeping teeth covered, smile as widely as you can; release and repeat 6 times.

Hold the smile (with teeth covered) and place your index finger on your chin. Tilt your head back and move your jaw up and down. Repeat twice; relax.

Face Exercises Tip #4 - Shrink a double chin.

Firming the platysma muscle (located under the chin) tightens and lifts skin to reduce a double chin and turkey wattle.

Try it: Place your fingers on the top of your neck (just under your chin) and lightly stroke the skin down while tilting your head back. Relax and repeat twice.

Next, place your fingers on your clavicle, jut your lower lip out as far as possible and tilt your chin up as you pull the corners of your mouth down. Hold for 4 deep breaths, then relax.
