Do You Know You Can Reverse Your Teeth Cavities Naturally?

Since we were young, we have been repeatedly bombarded by the misconception that sugar causes cavities. What most people don’t know is that’s only half the truth. Theoretically, it is possible to consume excess amounts of sugar without suffering from cavities as a consequence.

Now we need to understand how sugar causes cavities indirectly. Cavity-causing bacteria (known as Streptococcus Mutans) uses sugar as an energy source to multiply and release acid as a by-product, which causes demineralization.  

Demineralization is the process which weakens enamel, due to a loss of essential molecules in your enamel’s structure. When this occurs for an extended period of time, your teeth will start to suffer from decay as cavity-causing bacteria now starts colonizing in the affected area, releasing acid again and again.

If no countermeasures are taken, the cavity can deepen to the 2nd layer of the tooth called the dentine. Then, after some time, it will penetrate through it and infect the pulp of the tooth. What happens? You will need the dreaded root canal treatment which isn’t just painful, it will also cost you thousands of dollars.

Sugar isn’t just the sole cause of demineralization. Certain foods like lemon and limes, which are acidic in nature, can cause rapid demineralization of the enamel.

Does this mean we should avoid consuming acid food forever? The answer is NO!

What some dentists will do is they will prescribe antibiotics. The fact is antibiotics do NOT eradicate cavity-causing bacteria. There are many colonies of cavity-causing bacteria residing in your mouth. It is nigh on impossible to eradicate them all, especially when they can colonize inside poorly-fitted dental crowns, implants or pockets of the teeth.

Most importantly, antibiotics also kill the good bacteria in your body. And bacteria can build resistance over time to your antibiotics. They simply cease to be as effective. What’s worse is that when you really need antibiotics in future, they won’t be as effective due to resistance.

The best way to counter demineralization of the enamel is through remineralization – the natural process by which the enamel strengthens and ‘repairs’ itself. Those who visit the dentist frequently might have heard of ‘remineralizing gel’, which is often upsold by dentists.

To maintain healthy teeth and gums, the ultimate goal is to let your teeth remineralize more than to be demineralized. It’s sort of like math, you need a ‘net remineralization’ at the end of the day. However, even if you purchase expensive remineralization gel products and take steps to remineralize your teeth, your teeth can still suffer at the end of the day, if you don’t possess the right knowledge.

And that’s what most people aren’t aware of! Dentists will never share this with their patients because that will just affect their business. I mean, think of it, if you’re a dentist and you know people can reverse their cavities naturally, would you want the public to know? Course not! Especially when you’ve spent so much time and money getting a Degree in dentistry.

Dentists would usually just tell their patients that they have a cavity that needs to be drilled and filled. To put it in other words, dentists will profit from patient’s ignorance; taking advantage of secret knowledge they have.

Also your dentist is unlikely to share the following 6 hard truths about dental care with you:

First off, do NOT brush your teeth after consuming any acidic or sugary food products; doing so will damage your enamel, causing it to erode and increasing the likelihood of cavities. After consuming acidic or sugary food products, your enamel becomes weak and soft due to demineralization; when you brush your teeth at its current state, you’re thinning and wearing off the enamel.

Secondly, you should brush your teeth softly with your toothbrush. Most people aren’t aware that when they are doing it aggressively, it’s wearing off their enamel, and also, causing their gums to recede. You should only use light, gentle brushing motion, taking care over each tooth. Lastly, you should only get the softer bristled brushes. The softer, the better.

Thirdly, avoid using teeth-whitening or ‘stain removal’ toothpaste daily. These products contain bleach and other chemicals, which are simply too abrasive for everyday use. Most individuals make the mistake of purchasing these products and using them as an everyday-use toothpaste. Extended use will severely damage your teeth’s enamel and cause teeth sensitivity. So if you have sensitive teeth, you might want to avoid any teeth-whitening or stain-removal formula toothpaste.

The fourth is to avoid using baking soda in any case on your teeth. Baking soda is very, very abrasive and can weaken and damage your teeth’s enamel. Baking soda may seem harmless and just soapy to touch, but when you apply it on your teeth and brush it, it’s akin to grinding your teeth against sandpaper!

Do you have amalgam-based fillings? If yes, you should be aware of the potential hazards. Amalgam-based fillings contain mercury, which is highly toxic to living beings. You should get them checked to make sure there’s no leakage or whatsoever.

Being exposed to faulty amalgam-based fillings can leave you feeling lethargic, with a weakened immune system, and many other unwanted health side-effects. Most countries have banned the use of amalgam-based fillings due to its dangerous toxicity.

Now you may be wondering why some dentists are still using them, despite the increasingly widely-known dangers. The answer: it is a cheaper material and it is easier to fill it into drilled teeth. So avoid amalgam-based fillings. If you already have one, check to see if it has any leakages.

Do not be fooled by “recommended by dentists!” labels being advertised or printed on dental products. None of these are actually any more beneficial than the average dental products that you can purchase at your supermarket, yet are sold with a huge mark-up on price.

The fifth hard truth is commonly used and yet completely unethical sale they suggest is implying you should opt in for wisdom tooth extraction. It is agreed by health officials and studies that any wisdom tooth which isn’t impacting or pushing against your neighboring teeth is perfectly safe to keep. There are no benefits extracting them. In fact, there’s a greater risk of life-threatening infection which I can bet your dentist won’t tell you about. The cons far outweigh the pros.

However, dentists will lie to you that ‘having an impacted wisdom tooth gives opportunity to cavity-causing bacteria to multiply which promotes teeth cavities.” These are all LIES! Let me repeat myself once more: you only need to have your wisdom tooth extracted IF it is affecting your neighboring teeth.

For instance, if the wisdom is touching against another tooth, it can cause the teeth to shift, which means there will be pain and cutting. Here, the extraction is valid, but in most other cases it is entirely fabricated.

And, finally, fluoride treatment is unnecessary. There is the propensity toward administering fluoride treatment. Did you know that the fluoride content in your toothpaste is more than enough to protect your teeth? 500 ppm (parts per million) is the standard and recommended level.

But dentists will recommend that you pay for their fluoride treatment, which can cost up to $80-100, dependent on state and country. In fact, most dentists will just do it without your permission and simply charge you at the end of the dental session.

Based on the data showing in some cases a tripling of sales of plant-based products since the start of the pandemic, we can be sure that this trend has continued to grow at a rapid pace. 

What is the evidence that plant-based eating patterns are healthy?

You will get a healthier heart. Harvard researchers tracked the health habits of about 110,000 people for 14 years and found that the higher folks’ intakes of fruits and vegetables, the lower their chances of developing cardiovascular disease.

Specifically, people who averaged eight-plus servings of fruits and veggies a day were 30 percent less likely to have a heart attack or stroke, compared to those who had less than 1.5 daily servings.

There’s plenty of research suggesting vegans tend to consume fewer calories, and thus weigh less and have lower body mass indexes than non-vegetarians. Today, there are tons of plant-based recipes that will leave you feeling fuller on few calories so you don’t have to worry about gaining weight. As long as you stay clear of vegan processed food you’ll be fine.

By going vegan, you will also get clearer and smoother skin. Cutting back on animal products also means skipping much of their saturated fats, which are notorious for clogging pores. Plus, many of the vitamins, pigments, and phytochemicals in fruits and veggies contribute to healthy skin. The lycopene in tomatoes, for example, helps protect your skin from sun damage, and vitamin C in sweet potatoes smooths wrinkles by stimulating the production of collagen.

Vegetarian diets have also been shown to help in lowering the risk of developing coronary heart disease, high blood pressure, diabetes, and increased longevity.

The four main groups to focus on are: vegetables, fruits, whole grains, and lean proteins. Here are some options for each group:

Vegetables

Leafy greens are a great vegetable because they come with a variety of nutrients. Some of the healthiest leafy greens out there include romaine lettuce, Swiss chard, and spinach.

Other vegetables worth adding to your plate are:

  • Beets
  • Broccoli
  • Carrots
  • Asparagus
  • Green beans 

Fruits

Some fruits contain higher sugar content, while others come with an added dose of fiber. High-sugar fruits may spike blood sugar levels, so it’s healthier to choose fruits that contain less sugar and some fiber for slower, more stable digestion. Some high-fiber fruits include:

  • Apples
  • Avocado
  • Blackberries 
  • Pears
  • Raspberries
  • Strawberries

Whole grains

Whole grains are also a great source of fiber and also provide some protein and healthy fats. As long as you’re eating some type of whole grain, you usually can’t go wrong. Some common whole grains you may find in your local grocery are:

  • Brown rice
  • Buckwheat
  • Quinoa

Lean protein

The Mediterranean diet gets its name from countries that are near, or border, the Mediterranean Sea, so seafood comprises a big portion of protein sources. Beyond that, nuts and legumes are also a popular option. Some lean protein foods that follow the Mediterranean diet include:

  • Fish
  • Eggs
  • Nuts

Health benefits of Mediterranean Diet

The Mediterranean diet’s many health benefits are largely attributed to eating plant-based foods that are rich in healthy unsaturated fats, antioxidant-rich vitamins, and polyphenols — compounds that have both antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties.

Since this eating pattern focuses on the quality of wholesome foods, which are mostly plants, it supplies essential nutrients, including fiber, antioxidants, and polyphenols.

Heart health

Plant-based foods are packed with healthy unsaturated fats, antioxidants, and anti-inflammatory properties that have proven to reduce the risk of cardiovascular disease and stroke. This is likely due to the fact that following a Mediterranean diet can reduce inflammation in the blood vessels that lead to and from the heart.

Researchers found that eating a Mediterranean diet reduced the risk of heart attack, stroke, or death from heart disease by 30% compared to eating a low-fat diet.

Brain health

Researchers have only recently begun to study the Mediterranean diet’s role with cognitive function and decline. So far, preliminary research suggests that the diet might help promote and prolong healthy brain function. 

For example, a small study published in Neurology in 2018 reported that following a Mediterranean diet could delay the onset of Alzheimer’s by up to 3.5 years when compared to people who follow a Western diet.

The researchers examined brain images of 70 healthy adults — 34 who regularly ate a Mediterranean diet and 36 who ate a Western diet for two years. The brains of those eating the Western diet contained more of a protein called beta-amyloid, which is found in large amounts among those with Alzheimer’s

Although no one in the study had Alzheimer’s, the researchers said that the presence of more beta-amyloid suggested that those individuals were at greater risk of developing the disease earlier in life.

Diabetes

Though more research is needed, multiple preliminary studies indicate that following a Mediterranean diet can help people with diabetes better control their blood sugar levels.

One study examined blood sugar levels of 901 participants with type 2 diabetes who lived in Italy and were, therefore, already adhering to a Mediterranean-style diet to some extent. 

The researchers ranked how closely a participant’s diet matched that of a Mediterranean diet and found that those with the highest rankings — who followed the diet most closely — had lower blood glucose levels following a meal compared to those who ranked lowest. 

Moreover, high rankers had lower HbA(1c), which is a measurement of a person’s average blood glucose levels over the last 2-3 months and a strong indicator of how well a person is managing their diabetes. The study was published in 2009 in the journal Diabetic Medicine.

The Mediterranean diet’s beneficial effect on blood glucose is likely due to the diet’s focus on complex carbs, which take longer to digest and won’t spike blood sugar levels, and healthy unsaturated fats over less healthy saturated fats. For those with diabetes, the American Diabetes Association recommends eating about less than 20 grams of saturated fat per day.

Weight loss

Depending on your current diet, the Mediterranean diet can offer a healthier option that may lead to weight loss

For example, one study followed 272 adults who were moderately obese for two years. The participants were separated into three groups:

  • Group 1 ate a restricted calorie, low-fat diet where women were instructed to consume 1500 calories a day and men ate 1800 calories a day. After two years, this group lost an average of 7.2 pounds.
  • Group 2 ate a restricted calorie, Mediterranean diet with the same caloric amounts as the low-fat diet. After two years, this group lost an average of 10 pounds.
  • Group 3 ate a low-carbohydrate diet that didn’t restrict calories but instead started participants off with 20 grams of carbs per day and gradually increased it to a max of 120 grams per day. After two years, this group lost an average of 12 pounds.

Downsides of Mediterranean Diet

Due to its focus on whole foods, most meals on the Mediterranean diet will require some level of home-prep. The main drawbacks may involve cooking more than you’re used to, and if you’re accustomed to eating heavily processed convenience items, it may mean adapting to new foods.

Veggies Play an Important Role in Snacks, Treats and Desserts

The world of vegetables is filled with color from bright yellows, reds and oranges to greens, purples and blues and color translates to nutrient dense; loaded with vitamins, minerals, enzymes and flavor.

Unfortunately for the most part (there are a few exceptions), the vegetable’s role in our diets has been as the “side-kick” at a meal not the star and rarely has the vegetable been viewed as an important ingredient in a dessert.
